Board of Directors
Seven individuals united by a shared commitment to the IDD community — bringing expertise in HR, healthcare, aviation, retail, and beyond.
I’m an experienced HR Manager, people advocate, and certified Life, Grief & Trauma-Informed Coach passionate about helping people and organizations navigate change, challenges, and growth. In HR, I bring expertise in employee relations, investigations, compliance, conflict resolution, leadership support, and building healthy, accountable workplace cultures. I believe HR is about more than policies — it’s about people, and I lead with compassion, sound judgment, confidentiality, and honesty.
As a coach, I help individuals navigate loss, life transitions, adversity, and the moments that challenge us to redefine who we are. I believe people don’t need to be fixed; they need to be heard, supported, and reminded of the strength already within them. Whether I’m supporting a leader, strengthening an organization, or walking alongside someone through a difficult season, my goal is simple: create clarity, build confidence, and help people move forward with intention and purpose.
Sam is currently working in the aviation sector and brings a strong passion for communications and community engagement to his role. Sam is thrilled to join the Adaptive Skills Training Los Angeles (AST LA) Board and is committed to supporting the organization’s mission and the community it serves.
With experience assisting individuals with a wide range of needs, Sam regularly supports wheelchair users in his day-to-day work. This experience has strengthened his understanding of accessibility, inclusion, and the importance of providing compassionate and respectful support. Driven by a genuine passion for helping others and giving back to the community, Sam looks forward to contributing his experience, communication skills, and enthusiasm to AST LA and its ongoing work to empower individuals.
Berni is thrilled to join the board of Adaptive Skills Training LA. Currently working in retail, she serves on her company’s health and safety committee, where she focuses on creating safe, welcoming spaces for everyone.
Her passion for the services provided by AST LA is deeply personal and inspired by her grandson, who has autism.
